The first Rumah Tunas Harapan was built in 1988 on a 12-acre leasehold reserve, a grant from the Selangor state government. The construction cost of 4 units of RM300,000 was sponsored by Amway Company (M) Sdn. Bhd. 10 children were placed with one foster family in each home. In 1998, 2 additional units were built, totaling 6 units of the Rumah Tunas Harapan and was named Rumah Tunas Harapan (RTH) Tengku Ampuan Rahimah, Kuala Selangor.
